My Omi (German name for Grandma) was born in Holzminden, a little town in Germany,
her Father was a writer for a newspaper and her mother was his secretary. They married in Holzminden and had Heidrun. Omi's family is German, her mother is from east-germany and my father came from Bunzlau, which belonged to germany however after world war 2 it belonged to poland. Her grandparents were owners of a big farm near the BALTIC SEA near Rostock, a city in east Germany. They had 5 children, one of them was her mother. During the war her grandparents were forced to flee their home because russian soldiers were taking peoples wives and killing rich farmers. Heidrun's grandmother had a place in Salzgitter, a town in north Germany so the family moved in. When Heidrun was two years old, her mum, dad and her moved into Dusseldorf, a big town in west Germany. They lived in a very little flat in the middle of the city. Heidruns family was always protestant. But her aunt married a catholic husband and she became a catholic too. Unfortunately, Omi's husband died too early with cancer, this was very hard for the whole family.
When Omi was little, She played all the time, also with people that didn’t exist. Her mother thought that something was wrong with her. Omi liked to read and draw and later on she loved to write poems. Omi loved swimming and ice skating and always wished that she could have lessons but her mother couldnt afford it. When she was 13, she started horse riding and she loved it. From a young age Omi became interested in political affairs. when she was 10 there were elections in Germany and their were photos and posters everywhere in the streets from the politicians. She also heard news through the radio and later on got a television.
